It never used to fail me. I’d be in the middle of making something that needed a seasoning packet such as chili or tacos, and I’d realize that I didn’t have a seasoning packet in the pantry.

A few years ago I was making fajitas and went to Pinterest to find a fajita seasoning recipe. It was so easy to make and I had all the ingredients on hand and it tasted great! This is when I started making my own seasoning mixes at home and using them instead of store-bought mixes.

Is Taco Seasoning the same as Chili Seasoning?

I know it may seem like you can use taco seasoning and chili seasoning interchangeably, but I don’t recommend it.

Chili seasoning has more chili powder in it and even though a lot of the other spices used are similar, the emphasis on the chili powder may not give you the flavor you’d like for taco seasoning.

In the colder months we have chili a lot. Usually once or twice a week to be honest.

Chili is such an easy meal to prepare and it always makes for good leftovers! It’s easy to double the batch as well!

How do you store homemade seasonings?

I store all of my homemade seasonings in an airtight mason jar. Then I use my label maker and mark what each jar is so I know what each one is.

When I run out it’s easy to mix more together because I usually have all the spices on hand that each seasoning mix needs.
