The ingredients needed for this homemade chili seasoning recipe will produce a mild to medium flavor. You may experiment with some of the ratios to come up with the flavor that you enjoy the most.

Ingredient Notes & Possible Substitutions
Chili Powder – Different types of chili powder will have different flavors and spice levels. If you are sensitive to spice, avoid any chili powders specifically labeled as “hot”. Regular chili powder tends to be fairly mild.
Coconut Sugar – Brown sugar and coconut sugar can be used interchangeably in this homemade chili seasoning recipe. If you are following a strict paleo diet, be sure to use coconut sugar to avoid any refined sugars.
Sea Salt – Kosher salt or regular table salt can be used. Sea salt tends to be a little less salty compared to other varieties of salt, so if you choose not to use sea salt and are sensitive to salt start with 3 teaspoons of salt and add additional salt to the chili when cooking if needed.
Smoked Paprika – Regular paprika can also be used. It will still taste great but just be a little less smoky.

- Add all ingredients to a jar or storage container with at least an 8-ounce volume and stir to combine.
- Store sealed with an airtight lid for up to 3 months, stirring before each use.
How do you store homemade seasonings?
I store all of my homemade seasonings in an airtight mason jar. Then I use my label maker and mark what each jar is so I know what each one is. I also love using these wooden airtight lids, especially if the jars sit out on the counter. They look prettier than the traditional metal lid!
When stored properly, this chili seasoning will last up to 3 months. Simply stir it before using it in a recipe.
TIP: Be sure that when you are mixing the seasoning and storing it your containers and utensils are completely dry so it won’t compromise the quality of your recipe.

- 4 TBS chili powder
- 2 TBS cumin
- 2 TBS coconut sugar (or brown sugar)
- 1 TBS Sea Salt
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder

Notes
- Spices don’t actually “expire” but I recommend using within 2 years if it is stored in a cool, dry place and an air-tight container.
